The thudding begins as a signal to the changing season. Now that I’ve come to know what all the racket is I smile when I hear the thuds on the roof, against the siding, onto the deck.
The squirrels know the change is here and they have work to do.
As they release the pinecones from the towering cedars above our home, pelting our house with their winter food, the teacher within stirs from the nap of summer to ponder again squirrels, pinecones, changing leaves, spiders and their webs, apples, harvest, the lower path of the sun, the heavier dew in the morning…
My mind awakens with the changing season ready to explore the new day, to teach, and to be taught.
